Lessons In Chemistry’s delightfully awesome Food Consultant, Courtney McBroom talks with Sarah in forthcoming edition of BLAG.
She discusses bringing her culinary skills to the production of the hit Apple TV show, starring and executive produced by academy award winner, Brie Larson.
The show has picked up buzz amongst critics and audiences. Set in 1950s’ America, it is adapted from Bonnie Garmus’ recent book. It follows chemist and cook, Elizabeth Zott navigate and witness, patriarchy, love and many hot topics that are becoming more pressing with every day.
Courtney is a ray of sunshine during our interview — which is held during a virtual press day and has as much going on as a stock exchange. She talks about her extraordinary journey into the culinary world. If you’re trying to figure out ‘how to make it’, this one is an inspiration for you.
Can you tell us a fun and brief history of your career in food? I know it’s a big question, so I wondered if you can sum it up in a fun way.
“I’ll do a quick sum up! Basically, very much like Elizabeth Zott, I had an interesting path [laughing] to how I got to where I am today! I actually went to journalism school to start out with.”
Ok!
“At the University of Texas and then I decided ‘Hey, I don’t really want to be a journalist. What am I gonna do?’ So, I decided to go to pastry school.”
